Among MMOs I've played World of Warcraft, Eve Online, Everquest, Lord of the Rings Online (my current favorite), City of Heroes. I've played literally dozens of RPG and strategy games.
Fallen Earth is the first computer game I have worked on, eve isk but I have developed and written for numerous RPGs incluging Changeling: The Dreaming, Mind's Eye Theatre, Vampire: The Dark Ages, etc.
How long have you been working on Fallen Earth?
Almost three years.
How did you get involved with your job position?
I had not had any previous computer game design experience, but I had extensive RPG writing and development experience and a lot of experience designing table-top and LARP game systems.
What type of college courses or schooling did you have to prepare you for your position at Fallen Earth?
I had a liberal arts background so my writing courses have certainly been useful.
What in particular inspired you to work in the gaming industry?
I have always loved games of all kinds. It's something I always wanted to do, so I made it happen.
What games stand out in your memory for positive reasons?
Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights, Europa Universalis, Pirates!
What advice would you give to budding games / software developers?
Decide what you want to do and go for it! Keep your goal in mind at all times, but also diversify. Be willing to go into the business somewhere that might not be exactly where you want to be.
On an average day, what do you do at Fallen Earth?
Right now I am the team lead for the Live Team so it is our responsibility to get the first sectors of the game ready for players. We're doing everything from fixing bugz, re-balancing, eve isk and generally doing everything we can to improve the look and feel of the game. Soon we will be moving on to creating more end-game content and Holidays.
