This is just a shout out to everyone involved in the fleet battle in the M-OEE8 system in Eve Online last night. According to some accounts, there were 1214 people involved. The most I saw was around 1100, but either way, that's a huge number.
The battle involved the Band of Brothers and their allies, versus the Northern Coalition. The server seemed to be holding up well at first, with very little lag. I've been in a fair few large fleet battles, and normally when there are more than around 500 in system things start getting very laggy. Last night I was able to lock people, shoot them, and see myself getting locked and taking damage. Moving was a little laggy, but the fight was certainly a massive improvement over previous fleet battles.
The node died after a while though, and I tried for close to three hours to log back in, but couldn't. Of the people in my alliance, I think only a dozen managed to get back in. Blaze managed to get the chat windows up, but nothing else.
I didn't record anything from the battle, eve isk but here's a couple of pictures of our fleet getting ready to jump in.

I haven't logged back in yet, it sounds like I was on the losing side in the end because the guys from BoB managed to get a force back in to the system more quickly than the NC guys did.
I hope the people on both sides who lost ships due to lag get reimbursed. It was looking like a good fight last night, and it's always a shame when server issues get in the way.
Getting more than 1000 people in system and having very little lag is an achievement though, so nice work CCP. Here's hoping that next time things stay stable for more than 15 minutes! |
