FIFA becomes more than a game, it’s an event - for some, a way of life. Or at least a way to earn bragging rights each week.
EA Sports made a big deal about the fact FIFA 17 is powered by Frostbite. Frostbite is the gaming tech used to drive the graphically outstanding Battlefield series, and was used in Battlefield
FIFA 17 benefitted from even more realistic gameplay and the ability to shape the journey of Alex Hunter, the game’s protagonist, with immersive tactical and interview segments interspersed with the traditional top down matches. EA has even confirmed that The Journey mode will return in FIFA 18, which is great news.
It's yet to be confirmed if this will continue the story of Alex Hunter or start afresh. Here’s everything else you need to know about FIFA 18.
When is the FIFA 18 release date?
FIFA 18 UK release date: 26 September 2017 (TBC)
There is no confirmed release date for FIFA 18 yet, but it’s almost certain that it will be in late September 2017, most likely on 26 September.
FIFA 17 was released on 27 September, FIFA 16 on 22 September 2015 and FIFA 15 on 23 September 2014 - all Tuesdays. The Tuesday that matches up with this pattern for a FIFA 18 release date is 26 September 2017. Mark the date!
How much will FIFA 18 cost in the UK?
At launch it’s likely, based on FIFA 17, that the game will cost £49.99. The PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC versions all have that RRP, though their prices vary wildly depending on the retailer. Certain stockists will discount FIFA 18 at launch and throughout its life to win more sales, such is its extremely high popularity.
So when September 2017 rolls around, shop about for FIFA 18 as otherwise you’ll be paying £49.99. Some deluxe editions will likely cost more. Or just split the cost with your mates.
What platforms will FIFA 18 be on?
FIFA 18 will very likely be out on the usual platforms - Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

What others it may be on gets less clear. FIFA 17 was also released for PS3 and Xbox 360, but by September 2017, things will be different. While we are unlikely to see a new PlayStation, we could see Xbox’s Project Scorpio. At present this is rumoured for Christmas 2017, meaning FIFA wouldn’t be available at launch.
This may mean there is no Xbox 360 version because by that point that console would be two generations old. Sony might also decide to drop support for PS3 - time will tell.
There will also be a Nintendo Switch version of FIFA 18. EA announced that FIFA will be coming to Nintendo Switch, but it didn't specify which title - or when. Since then, EA's chief competition officer Peter Moore confirmed that "It will be FIFA 18, and it will obviously be later this year when FIFA 18 comes out."
